Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) for Global Health.
The United Nations Secretary-General’s Panel of Chief Experts on Digital Cooperation recommends that by 2030, every adult should have access to digital networks and digitally enabled financial and health services as a means of contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A.I., whose applications are transforming traditional approaches to scientific research, clinical practice, and public health, will be a key factor in achieving universal health coverage, globally and in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The areas in which A.I. will be able to contribute are; early disease diagnosis, care management, public health surveillance, morbidity or mortality risk assessment, epidemic prediction and surveillance, and health planning.
For it to be effective, a comprehensive research agenda would need to be developed to measure how AI-based interventions can add value to standards of care.
