Human or AI?

Could you distinguish a human being or an object created by artificial intelligence? It is the disturbing title of a recent article published in “La Repubblica” and, apparently, the answer to the question is negative. This was confirmed by a test by a Polish researcher who demonstrated how the boundary between human and artificial is becoming increasingly blurred. Every day we witness a proliferation of keystrokes created by computers, starting with Alexa and Siri, which enter the normal routine of our days, up to the cryptic and tiring dialogues – with the chatbots of banks, large companies and service companies.

In both cases, we are aware that it is an artificial intelligence speaking.

But the game is slowly becoming complicated. For a few months now, we have begun to deal with artificial intelligence generating texts, in the form of GPT-3. The boundary between human and artificial intelligence has blurred. Not surprisingly, GPT-3 was initially presented as a tool capable of writing novels in the style of any writer. At the time of writing, there are about 300 applications and about ten thousand developers using GPT-3, giving us the impression of conversing with a human being. Could you tell them apart?
