Mandatory driver assistance systems will be required starting from July 2024.
On 7 July, the EU Regulation 2019/2144 came into force, which mandates the mandatory installation of several systems to assist driving on newly registered models.
These technological devices, known as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, are already available in many vehicles. Their objective is to enhance road safety and decrease accidents in Europe. They include features such as issuing alerts in case of high speed, activating automatic braking in dangerous situations, detecting symptoms of fatigue and driver distraction, and assisting in maintaining the lane.
