New trends in tourism post-Covid.
Nothing will be the same. This is stated in “Rethinking tourism”, the report published by the Rome-based marketing and communications agency I SAY: “after nearly ten years of uninterrupted growth, travel & tourism has found itself facing its most severe crisis ever. The impact of Covid-19 on the sector has been 11 times that of the economic and financial crisis of 2008”.
Many European countries have found themselves rethinking their models. In the case of Italy, excessive dependence on European tourism, for example, has been a severe blow to its cultural cities.
Uncertainty still remains, but it is possible to identify a recovery in terms of domestic and European travel. In 2020 and 2021 Italians stayed at home: more than 90% preferred the Belpaese. If pre-Covid tourists were hyper-connected, then post-Covid tourists want to disconnect and rediscover intimate places. Another trend is the digitalization of vacation planning, with an increase in direct bookings.
Finally, the removal of intermediaries for the supply chain will be a fundamental element for a winning digital strategy in the tourism sector.
