Remembrance Day: all events.

January 27th marks the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp by the Red Army. This year as well, many events will remember the Holocaust and the Nazi-fascist crimes.

It starts with the screening, at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, of the docufilm “The breath of Shlomo”, which tells the story of Shlomo Venice starting from Thessaloniki, the city where he spent his childhood. The documentary reviews the locations of his deportation (Auschwitz, Birkenau, Ebensee, Mauthausen) then in Italy, Udine and finally Rome.

Meetings, shows, guided tours throughout Italy and numerous initiatives organized by Anpi (National Association of Italian Partisans) and Aned (National Association of former Deportees in Nazi Camps), including the publication of the video-account of the deportations and of those who opposed it “We remember you”, with speeches by the writer Edith Bruck.

Among the exhibitions, we mention in Prato the initiative of the Museum of the Deportation with the Uffizi Galleries which inaugurated on January 24 the exhibition “Rudolf Levy (1875-1944). The work and exile” dedicated to the expressionist painter, German Jewish, deported to Auschwitz from Italy and many works in German museums were destroyed during the Nazi period.

Finally, in Milan, the UCEI and the Jewish community of Milan are organizing the non-competitive race “Run for Mem” for Sunday, January 29 (www.ucei.it).
