Spanish tourism: what to expect in 2026.
After years of record growth, Spanish tourism is moving towards a phase of consolidation. According to estimates by Exceltur – Alianza para la Excelencia Turística – in 2026 tourism GDP will grow by 2.4%,reaching a value of €229.4 billion, equivalent to 13.1% of the Spanish economy, confirming the sector’s central role.
In 2025, Spain surpassed 91.5 million foreign visitors, one of the main drivers of growth. The outlook remains positive, although forecasts are more cautious and influenced by the evolution of geopolitical tensions, which could impact international mobility.
Coastal destinations continue to outperform, while major cities show signs of slowing down. Madrid and San Sebastián lead growth, while Barcelona, Málaga and Valencia report weaker results. For 2026, the most promising prospects concern the Valencian Community, Murcia and the Balearic Islands, while urban areas remain more exposed to international uncertainties.
