The challenges of future hospitality

What are the future challenges of the hospitality industry? This was discussed during the fifth edition of Hicon, the Italian conference dedicated to innovation and the most advanced technologies in the field of tourism and hospitality that took place on 23 November in Milan.

During the meeting, five trends emerged in the medium and long term: the pleasure of exploring emerging destinations or rediscovering classic ones; the luxury of sustainability, which today represents an added value; know how to position themselves to generate trust in the guest; Know the customer, collecting and analyzing data clearly (only 27% of the data collected are currently used); the space travel with ever wider borders.

The priorities of the tourism sector today is: data management, cost reduction, automation, finding qualified staff and sustainability; while travelers demand luxury, culture, authenticity and experiences.

According to Expedia’s Traveler Value Index 2023, 60% of consumers believe that offering the right price is the most important feature for online travel sites, 51% want an easy-to-navigate travel website, while 53% say that it is important to book with suppliers to which you are loyal. In the short term, according to Booking already next year, 70% of Italians will feel more optimistic about the trip. Amadeus Hospitality, on the other hand, focuses on the employment rate in the Italian hotel sector, which is showing encouraging signs, with pre-pandemic levels in the last months of the year. Among the Italian cities that in the past three months are increasingly in demand are: Bergamo, Bologna, Florence, Genoa, Milan, Naples, Rome, Turin and Venice. Lastly, in terms of markets, 49% of cases remain related to domestic tourism, followed by Germany (11%), France (10%), the United Kingdom and Spain (9%).
