The Sea Care project is born

Taking care of the sea to protect human health. It is the goal of the Sea project Care, born from the collaboration between Istituto Superiore di Sanità and Marina Militare with collaborations of other excellent research groups. The project will be presented during the Health Risk Management Forum to be held in Arezzo next 24 November.

The scientific community has now rethought the concept of human health as indissociable from the state of natural resources and environmental variables on which health itself depends, converging on the principles of one health up to the concept of planetary health. This approach is reflected in the UN 2030 Agenda for Action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The project Sea Care: Environment and Climate Health was born to study, through a systemic and extensive vision and a sustainable approach at the country level, the effects that human activities and climate change have on the natural state of the world’s seas and oceans, contributing to the assessment of risks to human health, including in support of rehabilitation and prevention policies. In 6 months of activity, more than 1,500 samples were collected in over 50 strategically representative sites for the study of environmental and climate risks, from the Mediterranean basin, the Atlantic and Indian Oceans to the Pole, Thanks to the embarkation of 25 researchers from the ISS and its institutional partners.
