What does it mean to be healthy?
In 1948, the World Health Organization (WHO) proposed the definition of health as being “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, not simply the absence of disease or infirmity”. With the 1986 Ottawa Charter, the fundamental strategies and priority areas for action were identified, which allow each individual to be in good physical and mental health. In 1993 the WHO released the WHO Document “93 Life Skills in Schools”. The text provides 10 core personal and relational skills that are used to govern relationships with the rest of the world, to face daily life positively, establishing that it is necessary to maintain relationships with others in order to deal with the problems, pressures and stresses of daily life. The lack of such socio-emotional skills can result in negative and risky behavior. To stay healthy, therefore, a good IQ and academic success is not enough, it is also necessary to possess transversal emotional, social and practical skills.
