Road tourism continues to grow across Europe.

Open-air tourism continues to attract European travelers. According to Eurostat data, in 2025 the number of overnight stays in campsites, motorhome areas, and caravan parks across the European Union reached 413 million, confirming the sector’s steady growth over the past ten years.

Compared to 2015, overnight stays related to outdoor tourism increased by 28.5%, surpassing the growth rate of hotels and traditional accommodation facilities. This trend reflects the evolution of travel habits: greater independence, closer contact with nature, and the search for authentic experiences.

The summer season remains the preferred period, with 67% of overnight stays concentrated between June and August. However, the trend toward year-round travel is also growing, supported by the freedom of movement offered by motorhomes.

France, Italy, and Spain lead the market.
France confirms its position as the leading European market, with 154 million overnight stays in campsites and caravan parks, representing more than one-third of the EU total. Spain and Italy follow, with Italy ranking third in Europe with 49.1 million overnight stays.

However, the growth of road tourism also brings new critical issues. Several European countries are facing problems related to overcrowding, the management of unauthorized parking areas, and pressure on infrastructure.
