Big data and Corona virus.
Big data will be used in the Coronavirus emergency. Starting with Facebook.

In the previous post we talked about how South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore have relied on data to contain coronavirus infection, with encouraging results.

Wired reveals in an article that a team of experts is ready to work with the Italian government to exploit big data and technologies and already has a dossier to study: an analysis developed on a set of data provided by Facebook throughout the university of Pavia.

It was the World Health Organization (WHO) itself that called the governments: the closure of businesses, schools and companies, the so-called blockade, alone is not enough. “We have not seen a significant increase in the urgency of testing, isolation and contact tracking, which is the backbone of the response to Covid-19,” said the authority’s director-general, Tedros Adhamon Ghebreyesus.

In recent days, even the largest Italian telephone companies have offered, through their trade association, Asstel, anonymous data sets that aggregate the movements of their users to do contact tracking, or trace all the contacts of an infected person. The article also analyzes the #privacy issue
