Confcommercio: in tourism there are 280 thousand workers short.

Alarm in the tourist sector. If this year, as is expected, there will be a 15.3% growth in tourist presences compared to 2019, there will be a need for 280 thousand more workers, just for accommodation and catering activities. Demand is close to 500000 units, when considering total turnover. A recent analysis from the Confcommercio Research Center confirms this.

A demographic decline. Comparing 2022 with previous years, the lack of workers is based on a demographic reason, linked to the fact that in the last four years the population most suitable for this type of work, that is, from 18 to 30, has decreased by 260 thousand units. A decline that also applies to foreign workers.

A rise in the GDP of the sector. As for the price of the field, the analysis of Confcommercio previews an increase of the GDP of the field of 0.9% this year and of 1.2% the next. Resident consumption is expected to increase by 0.5% this year and 0.7% next year, with investment expected to increase by 3.5% and 3.6% respectively. The public investments will have the greater slice (+26.6%), pushed also by the Pnrr, while those private ones would have to suffer a decrease of 0.7% this year, in order then to recover of a +0.5% the next one.
