Nuove regole per entrare in Europa

New Rules for Entering Europe.

Starting October 12, 2025, new rules will apply for travelers heading to countries in the Schengen Area. With the launch of the EES (Entry/Exit System), non-EU citizens entering for short stays (up to 90 days within 180) will have to register their biometric data, including fingerprints and a photo, upon their first entry or exit. These records will replace the traditional passport stamp and will be stored in a centralized electronic register managed by the European system eu-LISA.

In Italy, the initial phase will begin at Milan Linate, Milan Malpensa, and Rome Fiumicino airports, and will later extend to the ports of Civitavecchia and Genoa.
Initially, only 10% of non-EU travelers will be subject to the new procedures, but full implementation is expected by April 2026.
Children under 12 years old are exempt from fingerprint collection but will still need to have a photo taken. After the initial registration, passport control will only verify stored data, making the process faster.

At the same time, the ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System)will also come into operation in the coming months. Under this system, non-EU citizens will need to obtain an electronic travel authorization (ETIAS)—valid for up to three years—to enter the Schengen Area.

These changes will directly impact travel planning and the operations of travel agencies, tour operators, and airlines.
