Spain: luxury destination for 2024

According to Condé Nast Johansen’s guide, Spain is the first destination in the world for luxury travel in 2024, ahead of France, Italy, Greece, and the United States. The top priority for tourists visiting this country is gastronomy and wellness treatments, with an average cost of 8,000 euros per trip.

Almost a third of the respondents of the international tourist study “Hábitos vacacionales de lujo 2024” say they want to make a luxury trip between three and four times a year, choosing preferably the seasons with low tourist turnout. Travelling in September is preferred by 44%, followed by June with 29% and May with 27%.

As for booking, the number of luxury travellers who prefer to book directly through the hotel’s website is growing (68%), while 56% use an online travel agency (OTA) and 13% go to a physical agency.

For the first time, Condé Nast points out, urban destinations are on the rise (65%) compared to seaside destinations (55%), followed by rural destinations (48%) and spas with wellness treatments (36%).

As for the type of accommodation, 58% of travelers opt for a boutique hotel, followed by 55% who prefer independent luxury hotels, while 41% prefer international hotel chains, 39% villas and private houses for rent and 36% a stay in the spa.

At the hotel, bed quality is a must for 73% of respondents, followed by a good breakfast (64%), excellent dining (58%), and the presence of a swimming pool (49%).
