Tourists pay tribute to small facilities.

The tourism sector is experiencing a period of significant change, with an increase in travellers’ preference for small facilities such as bed and breakfasts and holiday homes. According to data from SiteMinder’s “Changing Traveller Report 2022”, the percentage of travellers who choose these facilities has risen from 23% to 28%.
The report also highlights that about 40% of Italians prefer to stay in smaller facilities, despite prices have increased by 33%, compared to an increase of 26% in all Italian facilities.

In addition to the preference for small structures, other changes in the behaviour of travellers are observed. The average level of booking in small establishments is 34 days, 13 days more than the previous year, an increase of 62%. At the same time, cancellation rates gradually decreased from 39 per cent in 2020 to 24 per cent in 2022.

For small facilities, the report finally points out that direct booking from websites was the largest source of revenue in 2022. This finding highlights the importance for small tourist facilities to promote their visibility and facilitate direct booking via digital platforms.
