Italian tourism grows through smart working.

The Italian tourism market has returned to growth. This is confirmed by data in the eighth edition of the Osservatorio Innovazione Digitale nel Turismo (Digital Innovation in Tourism Observatory) of the School of Management of the Politecnico di Milano. Tourism is growing both in the accommodation sector, with +73% compared to 2020 (9.5 billion euros that also recovered well compared to the 10.3 billion of 2019), and in the transport sector, with +33% compared to 2020, which continues however to be burdened by the fear of contagions with only 8.5 billion (stood at 18 billion pre-Covid). Driving growth are digital transactions (+55% over 2020, but still -32% compared to 2019) and business travel.

Fleet Magazine reports on the trends that have driven:

– Business travel and smart working: 77% of operators have equipped themselves to accommodate smart workers.

– Sustainability: 94% of facilities have implemented actions to increase sustainability.

– Neverending tourism: 77% of facilities have offered the possibility to extend the tourism experience, through activities to be carried out online (before or after the trip) to enrich their value proposition.

– Flex payment: the possibility of free cancellation and full insurance coverage were key. In addition, 20% of facilities enabled the “Buy Now-Pay Later” service and the possibility for payments made in installments.
